Carrie Hitchcock Photography

Hull and Me 1978 to 1982 Self-published 2016

Part memoir, part nostalgia, part social history, this is a book of photographs and recollections of Hull from the late seventies and early eighties.

These pictures tell the story of my love affair with Hull and the people I met there, but they also mark the beginning of a lifetime photographic career. The book is a celebration of an often-neglected city to mark its City of Culture status in 2017.

The book includes a CD of music from Shameless Hussies, Janes Plane and Mental Block.

Response from readers:

“Wow! - what a marvellous and hugely evocative treasure trove you’ve produced! I was transfixed reading through it cover to cover last night. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

“Received your book today, which I ordered for my wife’s birthday. It’s a beautiful piece of work, thank you. We moved to hull as young lovers in 1984 and spent two years there doing much the same things as you did…what a time, what a place! Now been married 30 years and ended up in a different part of Yorkshire…but those days in Hull still resonate and remind us of carefree times. Thanks again for a wonderful bunch of memories.”

“Beautiful, poignant and moving”
